The Third Commandment "Keep Holy The Sabbath" God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. The Israelites set apart this day to rest. Their Sabbath is Saturday, the seventh day of the week. The Sabbath is a day to rest and honor God. We must live out the third commandment by gathering for mass each Sunday or the evening before with our parish community. This is the most important way to keep holy the Lords day. We give God thanks and praise while listening to Gods word. We celebrate the Paschal Mystery, Jesus’ suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension. Because Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday, we celebrate the sabbath on a Sunday. We celebrate Jesus’ gift of himself in the Eucharist and go to share, love, and serve others, and build a better community. Holy days of obligation are special days in addition to Sunday in which we must participate in mass. We honor God through worship. We remember that we depend on God for everything, and renew our lives and spirits to refocus on what matters most -the Lord our God.
