Ten Commandments Part I

 The Second Commandment

The second commandment is, “You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God in vain.” We follow this commandment because God’s name is sacred, or holy. God’s name should only be used with great reverence or honor, love and respect.  When we fail to follow this law we are also committing blasphemy- a thought, word, or act that makes fun of or shows hatred for God. Perjury, the act of making false oaths and cursing, which is calling on God to do harm on someone else, also breaks the 2nd commandment.
